Top reasons to choose a Professional Display over a standard television for your office

Here we look at six reasons why a Professional Display is better for your office than a standard television.

If you’re considering buying a display for your office, whether it’s for digital signage in reception or a screen for presentations in meeting rooms, you might be looking at TVs as well as Professional Displays. TVs can offer high image quality, and are usually cheaper in the short term, so what’s the problem?

Here we look at six reasons why a Professional Display is better for your office.

1: A consumer television has been designed for the home. While it may look great, the build quality has been designed for the normal operating temperatures and usage hours in domestic homes.

Professional displays have been designed to a higher standard. The physical chassis and panel of the unit, as well as its components, are stronger and have been designed for use in environments where temperature, vibration and hours of use are more varied and extreme than in the average home.

2: In an office you may wish to place your LCD panel in a variety of locations pitched in either Portrait or Landscape mode for the best visual impact. Consumer televisions have been designed to work in Landscape mode and do not operate correctly when installed in portrait mode.

Professional displays are specifically designed to be used in different orientations and operate with a wide range of PC inputs, as well as many formats of video signal, to offer you the most rounded and compelling solution.

3: Did you know that Brightness levels are higher on professional displays in order to account for the variable lighting conditions in offices? What’s more, anti-reflective or anti-glare filters are applied to minimise reflections in commercial environments, whereas high-gloss filters are applied to improve image quality and perceived contrast level on consumer televisions.

This means you can use a professional display in a wider range of locations, with varied lighting conditions, and still get the best viewing-angle and colour saturation possible.

4: How you send and share data with your display is another key concern you need to think about. For example, Network or RS232 control is either not available or limited on a domestic television yet lies at the heart of connectivity options on a professional display.

With network and RS232 control it is possible to use a host of functions, such as switch the display on from standby via the network or use remote monitoring and control of the unit with ease. All these add up to a more flexible way to work.

5: Domestic televisions are designed to connect with home-based devices, such as network streaming, dynamic viewing modes and control of set top boxes and audio systems. Many of which aren’t used or required in an office-based setting.

Instead, professional displays come with a host of additional features specifically for professional environments, such as function scheduling, control of image colour balance and colour temperature, video wall mode, front LED and function lock. With a wider array of features you’ll find the average professional display is much more versatile than a domestic television.

6: When it comes to warranty, opting for a consumer television can prove a false economy in an office. While such devices are covered for use in domestic homes the warranty is often limited when used in a commercial environment. Add to this that repairs may be return to base with a repair times of up to 10 days or more without an option of loan equipment.

Compare this to the standard warranty of a professional display, which is often three years and comes with a same day or next day repair service If the display needs to be taken away, a professional warranty will often include an onsite replacement for the duration.
